Summerlands Chuffer

The Summerlands Chuffer has been developed to give a distinct "chuff" to your loco.

Machined from solid brass, the Chuffer consists of a jet within a narrow throat. This has a specially designed sounding slot, hand cut into the machined body. The body above the slot is machined out to give the maximum volume for resonance. The Chuffer itself is 48mm long and is mounted within the chimney of the loco so that the slot is inside. This gives a secondary resonance which amplifies the sound.

There are versions of the Summerlands chuffer available for most locos, including most Accucraft and Roundhouse designs as well as older locos from Pearse and Cheddar, not to mention MSS locos and our own Janet. Generic versions are available to fit , , and outside diameter exhaust pipes. Call us to discuss your requirements!

For Roundhouse locos, such as Lady Anne, Katie, Billie, and Millie, the chuffer comes fitted with a push-fit adapter for the twin exhausts. Fitting does require removal of the smokebox and shortening the exhaust pipes, so some mechanical skill is required.

Please note: If your Roundhouse loco is still under guarantee, then cutting the exhausts might affect the guarantee. Fitting to an Accucraft loco should not affect the guarantee, but any damage done would not be covered. If in any doubt, please contact the manufacturer.

The Summerlands Chuffer can be seen and heard in action on the Summerlandsteam channel on YouTube.com.
