Box-cab diesel

These locomotives started to appear in Europe and America in the 1920s. This model is based on the Alco Box-cab of that era and although these were standard gauge, their styling lends itself to use on narrow gauge.

The model is made from 1.2mm, laser-cut sheet steel, and spot welded. The model comes with all external and internal fittings. Steps, ladder, handrails, air horns, and roof vent are all lost wax brass castings. Other details are white metal. The cabs have full sets of castings for the driver's controls: regulator, air brakes sanding gear, relay box, cab heater, brake stand and driver's seat.

The chassis drives through a set of brass bevel gears from the motor and the final drive is via the side rods. The forward and reverse switch is operated via a sliding air vent on the roof, while the speed controller is operated by turning the exhaust pipe. A socket is mounted on the frames for recharging the battery.

The model is available either as a kit or ready to run. It can also be supplied suitably weathered. A number of extra detailing parts are available: windscreen wipers, lamp bracket, and seated driver.
