Pearse locomotives are constructed from the highest quality materials with the working parts manufactured to close tolerances using up to date computer-controlled machinery, giving an excellent accuracy and finish. The chassis and valve gear are produced in top quality steel, with the bodies being manufactured from etched brass, with full authentic rivet detail where necessary. Castings in brass enhance the appearance and add to the character of the engines.

Locos are made with ease of operation and service in mind. On all models cab roofs tilt to allow access to the water filler cap, the lubricator and the gas inlet valve. All filling caps are knurled.

All locomotives are designed for internal gas firing. This enables them to be used in all weather conditions, or even indoors in complete safety. All engines are powered by piston valve cylinders, fitted with 'O' rings on piston valve rods and piston heads. Boilers are fitted with water level taps which are piped away below the footplate and lubricators similarly have underfloor drain valves. This means that it is possible to keep the cabs clean and free of excess oil and water.

Engines have been designed for ease of dismantling so when they do require a general overhaul, they will not be off the road for long or cost the earth in parts and labour.
