Lyn is a model of the 2-4-2 locomotive produced by the Baldwin Locomotive Works, Philadelphia, USA for the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway.
When the railway decided that their three locomotives Yeo, Exe and Taw were insufficient for the trafic levels, they were unable to obtain a new engine in Britain without some wait. So an order was placed with the Baldwin Locomotive Works and Lyn was delivered in parts for assembly at Pilton yard. She went into service in 1898.
The model includes the minor modifications made to the smokebox door and the chimney, the coal rails fitted to the bunker, etc. and depicts the locomotive in her later years under Southern ownership after it returned from overhaul at the Southern Railway works at Eastleigh in 1929.
The model is internally gas fired and is available in manual or radio control versions. The engine is gauge adjustable for either 32mm or 45mm gauge - all the parts for this are supplied with the model. This operation can be undertaken by the owner and only takes a few minutes. The cab roof lifts up to give access to the gas, water and lubricator fillers. The chassis features the prototypical 'bar' frame design and is fully sprung. The wheels are spoked and insulated as standard.
The model is built from stainless steel and brass, and with the correct maintenance, will give a lifetime of pleasure.
