Pioneer locomotive No 42 "Anglo-Saxon" was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1880 to conquer the steep grades and sharp curves of Colorado’s Denver & Rio Grande Railway. For decades, the highly successful 2-8-0 Consolidation Class was the standard motive power of the narrow gauge railroad. Sold to Otto Mear’s spectacular Silverton Railroad in 1887, No 42 served faithfully for an additional twenty years before being retired around 1909.

As well as No 42, just described, the model is also available as Denver & Rio Grande No 268 (in black or 'Bumble Bee' livery) and as No 278 (in black livery).
